What Does Stonewall Mean to You?
The LGBT Center
of the University
of Pennsylvania is
producing a unique publication to mark the 40-year-anniversary of the beginning
of the gay rights movement. We are looking for submissions from Penn students
and employees alike to answer the simple question: What does Stonewall mean
today? We are living in an America that can be described not only as
post-Stonewall, but post-gay, post-AIDS, post-queer, existing after yet, in a
strange way, within these movements and events, still shivering in the
aftershocks. Stonewall, for many young people, means nothing; they've never
heard of it; it has no effect on their identity, personal histories, lives. But
Stonewall is, as its very name suggests, indelibly situated in the historical
past like a megalithic barrier that must be confronted. We welcome nonfiction
reflections, creative responses, and artistic expressions of your experiences
living in this POST* world.
If you are interested in submitting, editing, or design, please email Lee
Huttner at lhuttner@gmail.com
